M.I.C.E TOURISM IN VIETNAM
MICE tourism in Vietnam (Tourism combined with actual conferences, seminars and events) is very potential and it also is a right and promising direction for Vietnamese tourism. However, in order to develop this type of tourism really effectively, it is necessary to quickly implement many synchronous solutions, reasonable policy as well as the participation of all levels.
MICE’s strong growth in 2019 has shown good signs for tourism business. MICE tourism is usually a group of guest with the large number of people, they always spend much for the services, so the profits from MICE tourism are huge. It is estimated that the profit from MICE tourism is 5-6 times higher than regular tourism.
According to statistics of the World Tourism Organization, the annual value from MICE tourism is obtained to be about 30 billion USD. Besides, the strong point for this type is the lack of seasonality, so it also has the ability to bring tourism revenue in low seasons. It can be also said that this type of tourism opens up opportunities to create impressions, attract tourists and promote the country, the people and the culture.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnam is considered to have a competitive advantage in attracting MICE visitors by its majestic natural landscapes, many the world natural wonders, good accommodation facilities, long coastlines (3260 km) with many beautiful beaches such as My Khe (Da Nang), Bai Dai (Phu Quoc), Nha Trang Beach … Vietnam is also a safe and friendly destination by stable politics situation, hospitable local residents.
However, in the development of MICE tourism, Vietnam still faces many challenges such as underdeveloped infrastructure. MICE customers are mainly VIP guests, so they require diverse, synchronous and high-quality infrastructure. Many hotels in Vietnam are hardly up to international standards and lack large conference centers. Besides, we are lack of cultural and arts centers, shopping centers, the public sanitation. In particular, MICE tourism activities are mainly spontaneous, there is no orientation and support from the state management organizations.
Therefore, in order to develop M.I.C.E tourism in Vietnam, it is necessary to come up with the strategies to attract MICE tourists in the coming period and to create favorable conditions for agencies in this industry.
